Recommendations for RIMSS PC Specifications
Below are suggested PC’s specifications that are adequate for WinNetStar. This will assist you should you decide to replace some of your PC’s.
Since you may be purchasing new PCs in the near future, we encourage you to review RIMSS’ current guidelines for PC’s to be used with WinNetStar. The general rule of thumb for personal computers are: 1) three years or less in age, 2) 8.0 GB RAM or greater and 3) Windows® 10 Professional or Windows® 11 Professional.
Many older Microsoft Windows® versions are no longer supported by Microsoft, as well as RIMSS Business Systems Technology. The use of previous versions of Windows® is not suggested and potentially dangerous to your business as old versions of the Windows® operating system will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Additionally, the RIMSS WinNetStar program and/or other manufacturer specific programs may not work on older versions of Windows®.
If you are replacing only a portion of your PC inventory, ideally, the newer PC’s should be stationed at those employees that will be the heaviest users and/or require significant data calculations such as creating a stock order, running reports, etc. (parts counter is usually a good place to have the most robust PC’s as the parts personnel have continual contact with the customer and thus considered a heavy user). If you have some PC’s “on the edge”, you may first evaluate the performance on WinNetStar and if performance is not acceptable then replace the PC at a later date.
Bottom line - - the WinNetStar program is a robust, feature-rich program that will take advantage of the PC’s resources, so we will always suggest the latest and greatest specifications as this maximizes the users’ experience.
Suggested WinNetStar Prerequisites:
• Windows® 10 Professional 64-bit or greater
• 8 GB or more of RAM
• Intel Core i5 8th Generation or greater, for high use areas, Intel i7 8th Generation or greater processors will perform tasks faster
• 160 GB Hard Drive or greater
• Dedicated Video Card with VGA, DVI, Display Port or HDMI connection
• 24” Monitor (or greater) offering at least 1920 x 1080 resolution, for users that create or analyze reports, a larger monitor (or dual monitors) with high resolution is strongly suggested, a quality monitor is an absolute plus to the user’s experience)
Although not required, to utilize all of the features and functionality of WinNetStar, we also recommend that you have the following software applications loaded on each PC:
• Microsoft Excel (for exporting reports to Excel; also, for reviewing Financial statements prior to submission)
• Adobe Reader
• Microsoft Outlook (for sending reports via email)
• Microsoft Edge Web Browser
In a nutshell for PC’s - - “the bigger the better” - - spending a few hundred dollars more for a faster processor, more RAM, larger hard drive and a quality monitor is normally well worth the additional dollars, but will provide a better return on your investment on a PC that should last five years instead of the industry standard three.
Additionally, RIMSS can review your PC inventory and provide an idea of the “good and the bad”. This will require an inventory of your PC’s/laptops - - we will need: 1) the manufacturer, 2) the operating system and the version (Service Pack), 3) the amount of Memory (RAM) and 4) the processor type and model number.
